FAQs

What is a diving agency?

Diving agencies are organizations scuba divers get certified through. Some well known agencies are SDI, PADI, NAUI, SSI, and BSAC. MBT Divers runs through SDI and occasionally PADI. SDI stands for Scuba Diving International while PADI is the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.

What gear do I need to be certified?

To be Open Water Certified through MBT, you need a scuba grade mask, a snorkel, booties, and fins. You can purchase these items with the help of one of our sales associates before you attend the in-person portion of class. We can walk you through Atomic, Tusa, Cressi, and Oceanic products so you can make the best decision for yourself!

What types of certifications do we offer?

MBT offers Open Water, Nitrox, Advanced Adventure, Rescue Diver, CPR/First Aid, Oxygen Provider, and TDI Technical Diving. Make sure to call in advance for class availability! Our phone number is (850)455-7702.

How long do SCUBA certifications last?

Our certifications do not expire, but if you have not been diving for an extended period of time after being certified, it is recommended to attend a refresher course before diving again.

How often should my gear be serviced?

For most regulators, you should have it serviced at 100 dives or 1 year of use, whichever comes first. However, if you own an atomic regulator you only need it serviced every 300 dives or 2 years of use.

What are the current weather conditions?

There are many ways to be a responsible diver, and one is to check the weather to ensure safe conditions! Use these two links to check out what the day will be like!

How old do I have to be to get SCUBA certified?

According to SDI requirements, the youngest age that is certifiable starts at 10 years old. Ages 10-14 take the Junior Open Water Course with parental consent. Once they have turned 15, they can upgrade their certification with no additional training required.

I wear glasses, can I still dive?

If you wear glasses, contacts are a great alternative for diving. If you are not comfortable wearing contact lenses, there are masks that offer the option of prescription corrective lenses.
